Raj Kumar Hirani's PK released last Friday, has become a
much bigger hit than expected. This leaves this week's two releases Anurag
Kashyap's Ugly and the Hindi
version of the Rajinikanth starrer Lingaa
a little short of breath.
PK's collections are, to put mildly, awesome. On Tuesday it collected Rs. 18.85 crore rupees, bringing the total collection in India until Tuesday to Rs. 135.4 crore rupees.
PK's collections are, to put mildly, awesome. On Tuesday it collected Rs. 18.85 crore rupees, bringing the total collection in India until Tuesday to Rs. 135.4 crore rupees.
Apparently, theatres across the country have refused to vacate ample shows for the two new releases.
A prominent exhibitor from Bihar argues, "Why should we give up PK when every show is going full? Even in the chilly winter nights we are getting full houses for PK in the night shows. Ugly may be a good film. But it doesn't look like the kind of film people want to see during the festive week of Christmas and New Year. As for Lingaa, it has already flopped in Tamil. We aren't releasing it in Hindi in Bihar."
A source closely associated with Ugly says, "We are struggling to get screens. But it's difficult. The year has been bad for the trade. The exhibitors won't let go shows of PK for a new film."
Arun Rangachari the co-producer of Ugly says, "No doubt PK is a very good film. We just hope Ugly will offer audiences a distinctive choice specially given the holidays. We've tried our best to showcase Ugly as a film that crosses formulistic frontiers while entertaining the audience."
Adds Rahul Bhat who plays the lead in Ugly, "Ugly is a different genre of a film. Its audience is niche. We know this only too well. We just need 5 percent of PK's audience."
Mumbai's prominent distributor and exhibitor Anil Thadani says, "If Ugly is a good film it will sustain itself at the box office, as it is an unusual film. As for Lingaa, its fate is in any case decided in Tamil and Telugu."

On 1:39 AM by Unknown in Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Farah Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Katrina Kaif, news, salman khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Top 5 Jodis, year 2014 No comments
From Shah Rukh Khan - Deepika
Padukone and Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandez's chemistry to Shahid Kapoor -
Vishal Bharadwaj's camaraderie, the filmy jodis this year have taken our breath
away. Here's a list of the top 5 jodis who won our hearts. –
Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika
Padukone, Farah Khan (Happy New Year):
Director choreographer Farah Khan's third venture with Shah Rukh Khan and
second with Deepika Padukone brought her another superhit in her kitty. The
trio first worked together in 'Om Shanti Om' that also happens to be Deepika's
debut film.
SRK and Deepika worked again in Rohit Shetty's 'Chennai Express' and more than the action, the story, it was the chemistry of the lead pair that was appreciated in the movie.
'Happy New Year' was filled with comedy, dance and music, but this time too SRK Deepika's chemistry took our hearts away.

Salman Khan - Jacqueline
Fernandez (Kick): Salman Khan's Eid
release 'Kick' made over Rs 100 crores within four days of its release and
catapulted Jacqueline Fernandez to instant success. Her chemistry with the
'Dabangg' Khan was much appreciated. And the Jodi was a hit among the masses.
Katrina Kaif - Hrithik Roshan (Bang Bang): Starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, the
official Hindi remake for the Hollywood movie 'Knight and Day', 'Bang Bang',
with high octane action sequences and foot tapping music was a wholesome
potboiler. Song like 'Meherbaan' and 'Bang Bang' could only force one to draw
comparisons between the pair of Tom Cruise and Cameron and Hrithik and Katrina,
and mind you! Hrithik and Kat don't fall any shorter.
Deepika Padukone - Arjun Kapoor (Finding Fanny): Quite unusual by many terms, the jodi of Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor was indeed a surprise. Possibly because of a common best friend (wink! wink!), their camaraderie in the movie, out and about, was adorable.
Shraddha Kapoor - Sidharth Malhotra (Ek Villain): 'Ek Villain' was a revelation in more than one way. Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor's chemistry oozed out of every single frame and made us fall in love with Guru and Ayesha.

Aamir Khan's "PK" has opened well at the Indian box office, with the
film raking in more than ₹50 crore in two days. It is likely to end the
opening weekend by minting around ₹90 crore in India.
The film is expected to cross the ₹100-crore club by Monday (22 December) and beat "Kick," which achieved the feat in five days.
While the Aamir starrer will easily surpass ₹100 crore, the question will now be whether it enters the ₹200-crore club. So far, six Bollywood films have entered the ₹200-crore club, including Aamir's "Dhoom 3." All eyes will be focused on "PK" to find out if it crosses the ₹200-crore mark in India box office collections.
Trade experts seem confident that the film will enter the ₹200-crore club, but it needs to be seen if the Aamir starrer will be able to breach the mark by this year end. If it does, "PK" will beat "Chennai Express," which achieved the feat in 15 days.
There are possibilities that the comedy drama film might even beat "Kick," "Krrish 3" and "Dhoom 3," which minted over ₹200 crore in 11, 10 and nine days respectively.
Action Jackson
Ajay Devgn starrer "Action Jackson" has failed to pick up in its second week and its performance has remained dull at the box office. The film minted ₹2.65 crore in four days (15-18 December) and its two-week collections amout to ₹55.25 crore, reported Koimoi.
"Action Jackson" carried big buzz prior to its release, but its performance has dipped after the first day as a result of average reviews. The Devgn starrer was doing poorly in multiplexes, though its performance in single screens was decent. With the release of Aamir Khan's "PK," "Action Jackson" is likely to witness further drop in collections and might end its business soon.
